It is an unfortunate misconception amongst some of the general public that if they have MOT'd their car that is all they need to do every year. Whilst from a legal perspective this is true, in reality servicing your car, is just if not more important.
An MOT is essentially to ensure that your car is safe to drive on public roads. In contrast a service is a series of maintenance procedures carried out on your vehicle in an order to keep it in the best possible working condition. A car that is therefore regularly serviced is less likely to break down at inopportune moments. A little bit of money spent on a service now could save you a fortune in repair bills further down the line.
We offer two different types of service, an interim service and a full service. How long it has been since your last service and how many miles your car has travelled since your last service will determine which service is suitable.
|Type of Service||Interim||Full|
|Oil & Filter Replacement||x||x|
|Fluid Levels Check & Top Up|
|Power Steering Fluid||x||x|
|Tyre Condition & Pressures||x||x|
|Full Brake Check||x||x|
|Shock Absorbers Check||x||x|
|Auxiliary Drive Belt Check||x|
|Brake Fluid Condition||x|
|Fuel Filter (Diesel)||x|
|Spark Plugs (Petrol)||x|
We will also carry out a visual inspection of the vehicle in order to identify any potential issues that may not be picked up by the checks carried out above.
There is no hard and fast answer to this question all cars are different. As a general rule we would suggest that you should get your car serviced once a year. We would suggest a small service every year and then a large service every two to three years. This will vary depending on the mileage, age and condition of your vehicle. Cars that cover exceptionally high mileage may need to be serviced more than once a year.
Most car manufacturers will specify when a car should be serviced in the service schedule. Alternatively some cars will actually have an electronic alert on the dashboard alerting you as to when a service is due. If you are unsure how often your car should be serviced feel free to contact us and we will be more than happy to look it up for you.
